Students who are citizens of countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) will receive a "Confirmation of Acceptance" letter from the CEU Admissions Office. They need to apply for a long-term visa for study purposes (in Hungarian: “tartózkodási engedély átvételére jogositó vízum”). Please note that this type of visa is a special national single entry visa that enables its holder to apply for a residence permit for study purposes after enrolling in a university in Hungary.
Students entering on a long term visa need to visit the Immigration Office within 30 days to pick up their residence permit. It's strongly recommended to visit the office as soon as possible, because the application process can be very long, and the residence permit will be necessary for many official affairs.

If you have received a CEU Master's Excellence Scholarship or CEU Doctoral Scholarship, you do not have to present proof of possessing additional funds in order to receive a residence permit. If you have been awarded a CEU Master's Scholarship, you should have approx. 45,000 HUF per month on your bank account to present to the Immigration Office.
If you are not a recipient of the CEU Master's Excellence Scholarship or CEU Doctoral Scholarship, the Immigration Office in Budapest may require that you submit a bank statement to certify that you are able to cover your living expenses and/or the amount of the CEU tuition (if applicable). CEU estimates that students need to budget an average of 170,000 HUF per month to cover accommodation costs, costs of utilities, meals, city transportation, instructional materials, as well as other personal expenses and incidentals.
